Himalayan Permit Requests Down From 2013

The number of 2014 climbing permit requests is half compared to 2013.

Summer 2013 was a bad year in the Karakorum and Himalaya. With 22 deaths, half from the attack at the Nanga Parbat basecamp, the season could be called catastrophic.

No climbers are willing to accept the “risks” of Nanga Parbat and no permits were requested this year. Nanga Parbat will remain quiet for 2014.

On other peaks, it seems business as usual. David Lama, Hansjorg Auer and Peter Ortner will be climbing Broad Peak to acclimatize to prepare for the first ascent of Masherbrum northeast face.

Climbers will also be attempting G1 and G2, although the numbers are down from last year.

Kyle Dempster, Hayden Kennedy and Urban Novak will be on climbing the Shinning Wall on GIV.
