New West Coast Winter Mixed/Ice Routes

Jason Kruk, Tony Richardson and Kye Peterson have climbed two new mixed routes in Garibaldi Provincial Park, B.C.

The new routes are on a crag above Wedgemount Lake that’s been called Rethel Headwall. On March 4 and 5, the trio climbed No Cupcakes (NC) WI4+ 140 metres and Intolerant Tearin (IC) M5+ 140 metres.

Jason Kruk on Intolerant Tearin, of which he wrote on his Facebook page, “Tony Richardson snapped this cool ‪#‎alpinebuttshot‬ while belaying me through the delicate crux pitch two of our new route Intolerant Tearin. A true mixed adventure, with steep ice, thin ice, névé, rock climbing, frozen turf, and even a few pesky snow mushrooms to negotiate.”

After the climbs, Kruk paraglided back to the base of the wall. “Two new and very high quality 140 m mixed lines dispatched on the Rethel Headwall in the last two days by Tony, Kye and myself,” wrote Kruk. “I just landed in the valley and am waiting for the boys to walk down! So stoked!”
