Over the past year, a new crag at Horne Lake called The Chasm has been developed by Samuel Martin and friends. Located at Horne Lake, the walls are east and west facing, so they only get a few hours of sun in the afternoon, and there’s often a steady breeze to keep you cool.
Morris has developed around a dozen high-quality lines on steep limestone with nice tufas. Routes include Dissidence 5.12b, Wishing to Cry 5.11c, Huey P. Newton 5.12a, Ginger Goodwin 5.13a, Red Rosa 5.13d, Sacrificial Goat 5.10a, Mr. Blimmy 5.12b, La Rage de Marcel 5.13a, Lady Chainsaw 5.14b, Down Easy 5.10c and Bad Omen 5.12d.
Horne Lake is officially closed, and despite landowners allowing some climbing over the recent years, will be strictly enforced this summer due to wildfire risk. Anyone who visit could jeopardize future access. Read more about the official closure here.
