2014 Rock and Rave

Atlanta, GA. (Nov. 19, 2013) – When John Juraschek, a sales rep in the outdoor industry and a longtime advocate for climbing access, grabbed the bull by the horns last year and organized the inaugural Rock & Rave, a signature climbing event to support advocacy efforts in the southeastern U.S. last year, he had no idea that, in one year, he’d create the country’s single largest climbing fundraiser and celebration.

The inaugural Rock & Rave event drew more than 1,300 people and raised more than $36,000.

As Rock & Rave looks forward to its second year – it will take place this coming March 8 – Juraschek now has a team of folks working to put together the event. He also has solid momentum toward creating both a fun celebration of climbing, and an event that supports climbing and bouldering access in the southeast, such as the recent acquisition of Alabama’s Hospital Boulders.

Proceeds from the event are split between The Access Fund, The Southeastern Climbers Coalition and The Carolina Climbers Coalition.

Rock & Rave 2014 will take place March 8 from 7 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Stone Summit Climbing Gym in Atlanta, Georgia, the USA’s largest indoor rock climbing gym.

Highlights of the 2014 Event Include:

Super High Ball Bouldering Challenge – Climbers boulder to be able to pluck cash and Swag prizes off the wall, and this year there will be even more cash on the wall.
Free food, beer and plenty of climbing-oriented swag.
The Laser LIght Show and RAVE kicks off at 11:00 p.m., Djed by Tim Keenan and Kurt Smith. Other top Climbers from around the country will be in attendance.

And a Midnight Sugar High dessert buffet provided by PrAna (PrAna-Topia).

All-night Car Camping provided in the two Stone Summit back lots, where a whole other gathering takes place.

The goal for 2014 is to draw more than 1,500 people and raise $50,000.

The Southeastern Climbers Coalition, Carolina Climbers Coalition and The Access Fund, all non-profit advocacy groups, have had great success in the recent years with the purchases of Southeastern climbing areas such as Boat Rock, Laurel Knob, Rumbling Bald, Asheboro Boulders, Yellow Wall and Steel Cliff, along with managing many other climbing zones. This year’s effort will specifically help with the recent acquisition of the Hospital Boulder area, as $50,000 is still owed on the property.

This year’s event is supported by Outdoor Research, the title sponsor, with a lotta love from Prana, Mellow Mushroom, Red Bull and 12 other presenting sponsors.
