Cash Reward for Missing Everest Climber
In 2023, Malaysian climber Muhammad Hawari went missing during his descent on Everest

In spring 2023, 34-year-old Malaysian climber Muhammad Hawari went missing on Everest during his descent from the summit. A cash reward is now being offered for any information about his possible whereabouts.
After going missing, search and rescue technicians located Hawari’s jacket in camp two and asked the police to help track his cellphone. “The search are has been expanded and also includes areas not only in Nepal but also in Tibet,” said a government official shortly after Hawari went missing. “It now includes hiking trails starting from the Tibetan region.”
Kathmandu-based Pioneer Adventure announced the reward of $5,000 USD, as over 400 climbers and their guides are set to climb the world’s highest mountain. Pioneer Adventure noted that the request to locate Hawari was targeted at the nearly 500 local mountain guides.
Climbers are considered to be dead if they don’t exit the Khumbu Icefall by the end of the season. Hawari was one of six climbers who went missing last year who has not been located. In 2023, 18 climbers died on Everest. Below is a video from 2023 about Hawari.
