Red Bull Illume, an adventure and sports photography competition, returned to Aspen this past weekend to unveil its 15th annual exhibit and contest winners. There were 41,447 submissions, 56 finalists,11 category winners and one overall winner made for a tight competition and epic results.

“Being a judge involved voting online through all the categories before voting for the overall winner,” said Gripped Publishing photo editor Matt Stetson, who was one of over 50 judges. “There were  three different stages of voting, and I never corresponded with the other judges or knew who they were voting for.”

American Will Saunders took grand prize for his image Dirtbag Superhero, which is the above image. Saunders won a selection of prizes worth over $70,000. Canadian Bruno Long won top prize in the raw category for his photo of Dylan Siggers (see below).

“It was very cool to see all the images that were up for consideration,” said Stetson. “My favourite image was a white water kayaking image taken by Rod Hill in New Zealand. It won the energy category.” For all category winner’s photos visit here.
