Wild Country Zero Offset Cams Reviewed: Serious Trad Protection

A new cam set from one of the most trusted brands in the world of climbing

Wild Country is the iconic first manufacturer of Friends, the original camming unit. Wild Country Zero Friends are amongst the most trusted camming units, but now, with the Offset Zeros, they are available in a design intended for more specialized placements.

Offset units, with smaller cams on one side, have become popular with climbers who venture onto water grooves, pin scarred cracks and other flaring fissures.

The Wild Country Zeros have the narrowest head width in the business. The heads are made of a softer alloy than regular Zeroes and the cam faces are machined to allow for maximum friction. For maximum compression in small, rounded cracks, the Offset Zeros, like the Zeros, have a cam angle of 17.6 per cent.

The flexible stems are ingeniously protected by the compression spring and placing them in fiddly spots is made easier by the grooved surface of the top of the thumb hole. An extendable 10 mm Dyneema sling means you have three options for clipping in: the wire loop, the doubled sling and the extended sling. A quickdraw will probably be unnecessary in most applications.

Recommended for the advanced trad climber. Five sizes are available.
