2001 K7 Expedition with Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Brady Robinson

We'll be sharing some old videos of expeditions and climbs for those newer climbers who've never seen them

Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Brady Robinson’s 2001 attempt on the south face of K7 in the Charakusa Valley in the Karakoram Range of Pakistan. “In hindsight,” said Robinson, “this was a warm up for Conrad and Jimmy’s ascent of Meru. You can see glimmerings of Meru in this short film, and even a bit of footage if you’re paying attention.”

The first ascent of the south face of K7 came a few years after this attempt by Steve House, who climbed it solo in a single push in 41 hours base camp to base camp (2,400m, VI 5.10- WI4 M6 A2), making the second ascent of K7. Read more about it here.

In October 2011, Anker, Chin and Renan Ozturk spent eight days climbing up and three down to make the first ascent of Meru. Their ascent is recognised by Guinness World Records as the first ascent of Meru. The first serious attempts to climb Meru was by American Mugs Stump in 1986 and 1988, but both were threatened by big avalanches.
