At 19 He Just Climbed Off the Wagon V16

Frencesco Berardino first saw a video of Shaw Raboutou on Off the Wagon three years ago

Frencesco Berardino has repeated Off the Wagon V16, one of the most iconic lines in the world, at only 19 years old. It’s a powerful problem on a big boulder at the edge of a field in Val Bavona, Switzerland.

It was first tried 20 years ago by Chris Sharma and Dave Graham. Nalle Hukkataival made the first ascent at V14 and called it Off the Wagon in 2012. Shawn Raboutou climbed the low start at V16 at 2018, the first problem at the grade in the country. Jimmy Webb repeated it, and Daniel Woods got the third ascent. All other known repeats include: Giuliano Cameroni, Simon Lorenzi, Sergii Topishko, Yannick Flohé, Niccolò Ceria and Florian Wientjes.

Berardino started climbing at 12 and first saw a video of Raboutou on Off the Wagon three years ago. After seeing the film, he travelled to Switzerland with his dad to look at the problem. Last year, he connected with Cameroni who gave him finger training advice which Berardino said advanced his climbing.

Berardino started to try the Off the Wagon Sit three months ago and put in around 15 sessions before getting the send, which you can watch below. He’s currently projecting Alphane V17.
