Barehanded Climbing on Snowy Quebec Rock

Two climbers visit a remote wall in winter to make a chilly ascent of an aesthetic line

Jeff Girard and Carl Darveau take on a 70-metre granite 5.11 called La Marion in winter. They climb the summer rock route using gloved hands, bare hands and ice tools in a mixed style. They give it a winter grade of M8.

A short video featuring Girard and Darveau’s ascent of La Marion was made after their ascent in 2020. We’re sharing it now as many climbers are getting ready for another cold winter of ice and mixed climbing.
