Boulders Don’t Get Much More Beautiful Than This
Shawn Raboutou and Giuliano Cameroni climb a few hard blocs in Switzerland
The Mellow crew recently released a short film of Giuliano Cameroni and Shawn Raboutou climbing some gorgeous riverside boulders in Ticino, Switzerland. The highlight of the film is undoubtedly Mystic River V15 (8C), a stunning problem weaving up colourful, water-carved stone. Two winters ago, Cameroni made the first ascent of the line, and Raboutou picked up the first repeat later that same day. The film covers a couple other new problems including Geyser Sound V13 and Younity V12. Cameroni and Raboutou both send Geyser Sound, but with very different beta – Raboutou’s comp-style dyno clutch is something to behold. Younity is a Cameroni FA that works up a slopey, blunt arete.
The new Mellow film features a few other Cameroni sends. He repeats Tomba V14, a cool overhanging compression problem first opened by Jimmy Webb. He also makes the second ascent of Albatross V13, a powerful line with a committing dyno finish first put up by Dylan Chaut in 2021.
Raboutou makes one other big send in the film: La Rustica V15. Like Tomba, the problem is a Jimmy Webb first ascent. It’s seen previous repeats from a few others including Daniel Woods and Cameroni. Raboutou manages the send in the dark via headlamp.
