Chaehyun Seo on La Rambla 5.15a

New video has been released showcasing the second female ascent of the legendary Siurana climb

Last month, on November 22, Chaehyun Seo made the second female ascent of La Rambla 5.15a (9a+) in Siurana, Spain. A video of her historic send was released today by Black Diamond. The steep and technical route took her only seven tries over five climbing days to complete.

On February 26, 2017, Margo Hayes became the first woman in the world to climb 5.15a with her send of the route—watch a video of the ascent here. Before Hayes climbed La Rambla, Ashima Shiraishi and Josune Bereziartu had recorded 5.14d/15a sends.

At only 19, Seo already has quite the climbing resume. She is one of the best climbers on the World Cup circuit, winning overall gold in lead in 2019. She also won the World Championships in 2021 and competed on the South Korean Olympic Team at the Tokyo summer games.

At only 11 years old, Seo onsighted 5.13b. At 12, she sent Omaha Beach 5.14a in Red River Gorge, and at 15, she sent Bad Girls Club 5.14+ in Rifle. In addition to La Rambla, she racked up an impressive string of ascents in Spain in November. She became the second woman ever to onsight 5.14b (8c) with her send of L’atangonista, a 60-metre monster pitch in Monstant. Other highlights include redpoints of Migranya Profunda 5.14a and La Pequena Mowgli 5.14b and an onsight of Hidrofóbia 5.13d.
