Chains of Habit: Climber Talks About Depression and Mental Health

An experienced Himalayan climber talks about how being in the mountains help cope with depression

Ted Hesser is a climber and photographer with several big accomplishments to his name, such as ascents on Fitzroy, Denali, Vincent Massif and Ama Dablam. He began his journey in mountaineering by mentoring under Jim Williams of Exum Mountain Guides. The Tetons were the ideal place to learn competency in the mountains, quickly followed by a desire to capture them on camera.

In the new film from Mountain Hardwear called Chains of Habit, Hesser talks about mental health and depression and how the outdoors and mountains have helped him throughout his life. Chains of Habit brings to light his own struggle, in hopes of destigmatizing the conversation around mental health, and encourage others to get outside and get well.
