Conrad Anker Talks Antarctica and Tips for New Climbers

The top mountaineer talks about the Alex Lowe Foundation and more

Conrad Anker is one of the world’s most successful and accomplished all-round climbers. At 57, the master of technical mountaineering has over 30 years of experience under his belt.

In 2018, he was on a major expedition to Antarctica with Jimmy Chin, Alex Honnold, Cedar Wright, Savannah Cummins and Anna Pfaff. The strong team climbed a number of new routes and peaks.

In 2011, he summitted the Shark’s Fin, one of the last great unclimbed Himalayan walls. And in 2012, he led an expedition to recreate the historic 1963 American Mount Everest Expedition.

And despite a serious heart problem in the Himalayas on Nov. 16, 2016, Anker is still climbing at full throttle. In the video below, Anker talks about the Antarctica trip, the Alex Lowe Foundation, a Tom Frost film and tips for new ice climbers.

Filmed in Ouray Ice Park, you’ll have to crank the sound to catch all of the audio.
