Netflix Making “The Shining meets Free Solo” Film

Netflix has purchased the right to a a script called First Ascent, which has been described as “The Shining meets Free Solo,” according to Deadline.
The story follows a free solo climber named Hillary Hall who nearly gets killed in a climbing accident. After two years, Hall brings old climbing partners to make a documentary about her about her comeback. She attempts a new route of a 1,000-metre wall in China.
As she climbs, Hall will struggle with her “inner demons and supernatural forces, as it slowly becomes clear that this mountain does not want to be conquered.” It’s written by Colin Bannon, and will be directed by Jake Scott and the son of director Ridley Scott and the nephew of director Tony Scott. No production date is official set, but Netflix has already started work on promoting the project.
