In this new short film, top trad climber James Pearson talks about his journey to sending Bon Voyage, one of the world’s hardest trad climbs, while balancing his climbing life with fatherhood. A big theme throughout the video is flow state. “The power of flow bonds the community of climbers, from rewinding and relaxing to unlocking your potential,” the video description reads.

“But truly tapping into your flow state is a delicate practice between thinking and letting go. James Pearson shares his flow state, an experience that came while trying to understand how to balance climbing with parenthood, allowing him to have more enjoyment in his climbing and ultimately perform at his best by turning his back on the pressure of climbing.”

The book Pearson refers to in the film is Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.
