Schubert, Sharma and 5.14 Above the Sea
Jakob Schubert finishes a productive week of deep water soloing with a hard first ascent

Jakob Schubert and Chris Sharma recently spent time climbing psicobloc-style at a newly established crag called Canyamel in Spain.
“It’s the last day of the trip for me,” said Schubert about the video below, “which ends with my hardest first ascent in deep water soloing yet: Jelly Pain 5.14c. A new finish to Sharma’s Honey Cane.”
Deep water soloing gets particularly intense in wavy conditions, Schubert said. “Hearing the sound of waves smashing on the coast completely shifts the mental game.”
