Stefano Ghisolfi Visits the Cellar for Some Wide Boyz Crack Training

We'll have to wait and see if Ghisolfi tries out his newfound crack skills this year on Silence 5.15d

Top Italian sport climber Stefano Ghisolfi recently travelled to the U.K. to train cracks with Pete Whittaker, one half of the Wide Boyz duo. Whittaker took Ghisolfi down to Tom Randall’s famous crack cellar to work technique on a wide range of hand and foot crack sizes. A new video was just released of Ghisolfi’s crack training, and you’ll likely be surprised at how well the crack neophyte fares.

Whittaker and Ghisolfi originally met many months ago by video call when Ghisolfi was first exploring Adam Ondra’s Silence 5.15d. Ghisolfi was looking for some jamming advice for the route’s extremely difficult crack boulder problem. Who better to call than the world’s foremost crack technique expert, Whittaker. He’s even written a book on the subject.

While in the U.K., Ghisolfi also spent a day working the moves on the now famous Burden of Dreams V17 replica with Will Bosi. Bosi is now off in Finland working the real thing.

Ghisolfi is one of the world’s best sport climbers. He has climbed four 5.15c’s: Excalibur in Arco, Perfecto Mundo in Margalef, Change in Flatanger, and Bibliographie in Céüse. In 2022, he repeated Adam Ondra’s Move 5.15b, and put up two 5.15b’s of his own in Italy, The Lonely Mountain and L’arenauta. He was also the 2021 IFSC Lead World Cup winner.
