This clip of Marc-André Leclerc didn’t make it into The Alpinist

Austin Siadak took this video just before Leclerc made his historic solo of Torre Egger captured in the film

The Alpinist focuses on Canadian Marc-André Leclerc, who was one of the world’s leading climbers at the time of his death in 2018. He pushed the limits on some of the most famous epic and dangerous peaks.

The film features Leclerc soloing routes like the Emperor Face on Mount Robson, steep mixed climbs on the Stanley Headwall, and the Northeast Buttress on Mount Slesse in winter. Brette Harrington, Alex Honnold, Reinhold Messner, Barry Blanchard, Bernadette McDonald and many others speak about Leclerc and hard alpinism throughout the film.

The Alpinist included some of the most epic footage of Leclerc, which there was a lot of, but had to leave some things out. The below video was capture by Austin Siadak in Patagonia. Leclerc enjoyed several Elton John songs, such as this and That’s Why They Call It The Blues.
