Watch a Spring Avalanche in Yosemite

Yosemite National Park had a record breaking winter of snow fall, which means there will be snow at higher elevations into early summer

This avalanche took place in Yosemite earlier this month in Tenaya Canyon. Jeremy Evans said that he “safely viewed it from the Snow Creek trail.”

Yosemite National Park said in a statement that the winter of 2022/2023 is the largest recorded winter snow pack for Yosemite. This means there’s a lot of snow in the mountains. Snow amounts range from three metres at higher elevations to two metres at 1,500 metres. Virtually all wilderness camping locations in Yosemite are currently covered with snow.

All this snow will take a long time to melt, meaning if you are going climbing, you will likely encounter snow in the next few months.
