Watch Alex Honnold Free-Solo Onsight a Wide Splitter

S-Crack was a popular climb on Cabin Wall before the crag was closed a few seasons after this was filmed

In 2013, Rob Pizem was on hand for when Alex Honnold’s free-solo onsight of a difficult 5.10+ in Colorado’s Escalante Canyon called S-Crack.

The 20-metre crack widens toward the top where some climbers use the chicken wing technique. It was first climbed by Jimmie Dunn and Jim Newberry in 1978. S-Crack is found on Cabin Wall, which is now off-limits per request of the land owner. For more information on the closure visit here.

In case you missed it back then, watch the climb below. Honnold also downclimb soloed it, but that wasn’t caught on tape.
