Watch First Ascent of One of U.K.’s Hardest Trad Climbs

On Sept. 21, 2014, Neil Mawson made the first ascent of Choronzon at Pembroke in Wales. Graded E10 7a, it’s one of the hardest trad routes in the U.K.

Mawson started to project the route in 2011, but despite the five-hour drive from his home, he continued to work on it as often as he could. The route starts with a hard crux that finishes with a run-out about 15 metres up.

Watch this new video of the send that was released in April 2019.
