Watch Five Spring Rock Climbing Whippers

Your weekly dose of edge-of-your-seat whipper action

You can go your entire rock climbing life without taking a whipper if you’re careful enough, but more times than not you’ll run into a crux where falling is inevitable.

Below are five close-call whippers, be sure to follow Whipper for more.

Whipper #1

A whipper mid-clip stops this climber super close to the ground.

Whipper #2

Gear rips on this climber, and they hit the ground. Luckily, they were O.K. Belayers should stand closer to the rock and the first piece of trad gear should be multi-directional. Also… helmets.

Whipper #3

A solid dyno effort that ends in a whipper.

Whipper #4

Tight belay and a rope behind the leg. Climber is lucky there wasn’t a ledge there. Low-angle falls can be sketchy.

Whipper #5

A few close calls on this one with a belayer who’s break hand could use some work.
