Sean Bailey is one of North America’s top boulderers. In the below video, he sends Echale V14, Ode to the Modern Man V14, Chocolate Jesus V13 and Grand Illusion V16 or 5.15b.
About Grand Illusion’s grade, he said, “It’s hard to say. It’s a different style than any boulder I’ve tried so it’s definitely in a category of its own. It’s probably most similar to First Round First Minute, a Chris Sharma 5.15b in Spain, which is what I’m basing this grade off of.”
Born and raised in Seattle, Bailey spent his formative years cutting his teeth in the Cascades, but over the past few years he splits his time between World Cups and climbing around the world. He was introduced to climbing by his dad on the granite walls of Index. From there, he started climbing at his local gym, Vertical World, which is home to the Vertical World Climbing Team. On a team known for producing world class youth climbers, he quickly found his place in climbing.
