Will Bosi Sends Hard Sandstone Boulders in Area with Huge Potential
The Burden of Dreams second ascensionist climbs beautiful problems in the Czech Republic
Back in April 2022, Will Bosi took a short trip to Děčín in northewestern Czech Republic. The area is not well-known outside of the Czech Republic, but it has near-endless sandstone bouldering of the highest quality. There are tons of developed problems and even more awaiting first ascents. A deleted scene of the upcoming film Free at Last was just released, showcasing Bosi’s sends while in the area.
Bosi started his trip in Děčín working a problem called Warrior V15, first ascended by Czech crushed Martin Stranik. The problem created some near trip-ending skin issues, but Bosi luckily managed to get in a few hard sends just as his trip was ending.
Bosi started his string of sends with Metelkův Mechanický Betlém V14 (8B+). The gorgeous problem was first ascended by Rosta Stefanek nearly 15 years ago and has since seen repeats by Stranik and Adam Ondra. Bosi followed up this tick with quick repeats of three Stranik problems: a flash of Megalodon V12 and redpoints of Toxický Prase V13 and Prehistorik V14. The newly released video below shows sends of all four problems.
Bosi is one of only two climbers in the world to climb two V17’s. In October last year, he repeated Shawn Raboutou’s Alphane V17. Earlier this month, he made the coveted second ascent of Burden of Dreams V17, a Nalle Hukkataival line in Finland that went unrepeated for six years. According to his 8a.nu page, over the past 12 months he has sent a mind-blowing two V17’s, two V16’s, six V15’s, and eight V14’s.
