Here’s Who’s Competing in the First Lead World Cup of the Year

Don't miss the Lead World Cup in Wujiang, China this weekend. Here's how and when you can watch the comp.

The first IFSC Lead World Cup of 2024 is currently underway in Wujiang, China. Earlier today, 60 men and 59 women competed in the qualification round, with the top 26 in each gender category moving on to the semi-finals. In North American time zones, the semi-finals will be held early Saturday morning and the finals will take place early Sunday morning.

In the women’s qualification round, Janja Garnbret, Zhilu Luo, and Laura Rogora all tied for first. They’ll be joined by many of the biggest names in Lead climbing in the semi-finals, including Chaehyun Seo, Miho Nonaka, Molly Thompson-Smith, Zélia Avezou, Stasa Gejo, and Jain Kim, among others. This Wujiang event is Kim’s 100th Lead World Cup appearance. Brooke Raboutou, Natalia Grossman, Oriane Bertone, and Ai Mori did not compete in the event.

Sorato Anraku, Colin Duffy, Taisei Homma, and Toby Roberts all placed first in the men’s qualification round. In the semi-finals, they’ll be joined by many comp climbing stars, including Dohyun Lee, Sam Avezou, Sascha Lehmann, Stefano Ghisolfi, and Keqiao Boulder World Cup gold medalist Tomoa Narasaki. Japan has 11 athletes competing in the men’s semi-final. Alex Megos, Jakob Schubert, Adam Ondra, and Mejdi Schalck did not compete in the event.

The Lead semi-finals and finals will be livestreamed on the IFSC’s Youtube Channel through the videos linked below. The semi-finals will be held Saturday April 12 at 3am ET (12am PT). The finals will take place on Sunday April 13 at 7am ET (4am PT). The full list of athletes moving through to the semi-finals is found below.
