"Janja and the Magic Flower" turns the life of Janja Garnbret into a children's fairytale

Yesterday, a new children’s book was released featuring the story of comp climbing’s biggest star, Janja Garnbret. Titled Janja and the Magic Flower, the book was written by Primož Suhodolčan and illustrated by Matej de Cecco. The book is offered in Slovenian and English and can be purchased from the publisher’s website here.

The story weaves biographical elements from Garnbret’s life into a fairy tale, focusing on the importance of self-confidence and hard work. The book is part of a series featuring other top Slovenian athletes from different sports including alpine skiing, cycling, basketball, and hockey.

“I literally can’t believe I get to have my own children’s book!” said Garnbret about the new book. “Based on real life events the fairytale presents my path to climbing and my passion that keeps me going to this day. This project has been a dream come true and I hope you will like it as much as I do. Hope my story will encourage kids to dream big and believe in themselves!”

DZS Publishing Book Synopsis:

The tense story, in which there is no shortage of picturesque fairy-tale characters, such as the old Kozel, intertwines with biographical elements from Janja Garnbret’s childhood and her personal address to young readers.
