12 Whip Climbing Vans on Instagram #VanLife

It’s 2018 and we expect more climbers than ever to be hitting the road in their vans for weeks or months of climbing, surfing and aimless wandering.

As Urban Dictionary defines “whip”: “When the steering wheel was first put into use in automobiles, it was called the whip.

“The whip is what you used to control the horses on a stagecoach, hence the analogy. Many years later, various hip hop artists noticed that the Mercedes-Benz logo resembled a steering wheel.

“They then proceeded to use the old term ‘whip’ to describe any Mercedes-Benz vehicle. The term has now been generalized to classify any expensive automobile.”

Most climbers only need a gutted Chevy Astro with a futon and camp stove for a successful road trip, but some road trippers like to travel fancy.

So on that note, here are 12 whip #VanLife on Instagram from the budget to the ridiculous.

Having my books and dedicating so much room to them in the van was never a question. Even with becoming a minimalist in some way, the books were staying no matter what. . People ask me how to do something or how I come up with an idea or what inspires me. Honestly, I write and I read. I write like my life depends on it and read to learn from people who came before me. I write when things are good or bad or in the middle and go back to read words I need to hear. I write and read to remember, create, to get out of situations and get into them. I have a journal in my back pocket at all times so I can keep the tiniest idea. I have another journal for day to day stuff. And I have another journal to write my crazy ideas or big goals, mainly so they don't feel so big or unattainable. Authors are smart people who put their wisdom, ideas, and creations out there and who are always accessible. . I wanted to have instant access to the people I picked as the best story tellers, role models of sorts… Salinger, Miller, Hemingway, Martel, Kerouac, Strayed, Krakauer, Suess, Silverstein, Adams, Emerson, Thoreau, Green, Lewis, Rowling, Chebosky, Milne, Barrie, Keegan, Day, Nouwen… to be able to draw from their words when I need them and craft my own has been one of the biggest shapers of who I am.

Exactly 3 years ago today, it was the morning of my birthday when I packed my van and took off on what has become the biggest adventure of my life! With only $81.10 to my name, (not even enough for a full tank of gas) and an inconsistent part time photography job, I knew if I didn’t fully commit to my dreams then nothing would ever change… So I took a leap of faith and hit the road to pursue my passions. I’ve now spent the last 3 years traveling full time while living out of my grandmother's old van that I personally converted into my dream adventure-mobile. The people I’ve met, places I’ve been and experiences I’ve had (both good and bad), have significantly changed my life in a positive way. Huge THANK YOU to everyone that has supported my journey along the way! My only wish is that I can help inspire a few of you to get out there and chase your own dreams!
