The first IFSC Boulder World Cup of 2024 is currently underway in Keqiao, China. Yesterday, 60 women competed in the qualification round, with the top 20 moving on to the semi-finals. Janja Garnbret, Oceania Mackenzie, and Miho Nonaka all tied for first, each flashing all five qualification problems. Team USA member Kyra Condie placed fifth in the qualifiers. Canadian Maddie Richardson placed ninth.

“Before the start of the season, it’s always a bit of a mystery and [I’m] always a little bit nervous because I know I have been training hard over the winter, but you never know what the other girls will do and how hard they have been training,” said Garnbret after the qualifiers. “Today I wasn’t nervous at all. I was very excited to start the season, and I enjoyed all the boulders – very focused, [mentally] sharp, and I had a lot of fun.”

Many of the best comp climbers in the world are also moving on the semi-finals including Austria’s Jessica Pilz, France’s Zelia Avezou, Slovenia’s Mia Krampl, South Korea’s Chaehyun Seo, and Germany’s Hannah Meul. The full list of athletes moving through to the semi-finals is listed below.
