Keenan Takahashi Opens Ego Death V15

A new film was just released of Takahashi's September first ascent in Colorado

On September 27, American climber Keenan Takahashi made the first ascent of Ego Death V15 (8C). Located in the Colorado alpine on Mt. Evans, the steep compression problem works its way up an overhanging prow to a high topout. Takahashi sent Ego Death during his third session on the problem. It was his first V15 FA.

Presented by ANTIGRAV and released by Mellow, a new film was just released of Takahashi’s first ascent. “Just to try, let alone climb a line like this has been something I’ve dreamed of for over a decade,” said Takahashi about Ego Death on Instagram. “Never thought I’d come out of the summer being so psyched.”

Takahashi has put up numerous hard highball first ascents throughout the U.S., including A Little Life V14 in Bishop, Stones Throw V13 in Yosemite, Terminus V12 in Bishop, and Hokusai’s Wave V12 in New Mexico. In July last year, he topped his first V16, Insomniac in Lincoln Lake, Colorado. He’s climbed V15s in the U.S., Japan, and South Africa. On a rope, he’s climbed Empath 5.15a in Tahoe, California and Coup de Grace 5.14d in Ticino, Switzerland.
