Climber Joins the 5.15b Club and More News

A lot of the hard sends this year are coming from some climbers you might not have heard of

There have been dozens of sends of hard sport climbs and boulders over the past few weeks, from new 5.15bs to test-piece V16 repeats. Here’s a collection of a few of the standout ascents.

Tanguy Merard, who might not be as well known as other 5.15 climbers, has joined the 5.15b club with his first ascent of Hannigraal. “About the grade,” Merard said, “I had a little doubt because I did it super quickly, but the route suits me very well. I also had a discussion with Nicolas Pelorson and Seb Berthe who tried the route, and they told me that they agreed with me.”

In other sport climbing news, Alfons Dornauer has made the third ascent of Companion of Change 5.15a in Bergstation. Anatole Bosio climbed his third 5.15a with Sachidananda in Orgon. And Dylan Chuat repeated Seb Bouin’s Beyond 5.15a in Pic St Loup, which was 5.14d before a crucial hold broke.

In the world of bouldering, Jabee Kim, whose younger sister is competition climbing legend Jain Kim, has repeated La Revolutionnaire V16 in Fontainebleau. Elias Arriagada Krüger has repeated From Dirt Grows The Flowers V15, and Martin Stráník has flashed Bitter Sweet V13.
