Kokoro Fujii Wins Toulouse, Can’t go to Olympics

Adam Ondra finished in second overall despite feeling ill

Kokoro Fujii won the Toulouse Olympic qualifying combined event, but can’t go to the Olympics because Japan has already filled their quota with Tomoa Narasaki and Kai Harada.

Only two men and two women will get an Olympic invitation from each country that has athletes who qualify and Narasaki and Harada had already qualified at the World Championships. Japan is currently trying to have the IFSC/IOC rules changed so they can have an internal selection process to decide what athletes they can send.

Adam Ondra stopped his speed round versus Bassa Mawem because he wasn’t feeling well, but finished in third in bouldering and first in lead and took second overall. The event took four-and-a-half hours. Finals results below, everyone is going to the Olympics, except Fufii and Meichi Nrasaki. Women’s final tomorrow.

Athlete Speed – Boulder – Lead

1. Kokoro Fujii 5 – 2 – 2 = 20
2. Adam Ondra 8 – 3 – 1 = 24
3. Meichi Narasaki 4 – 1 – 7 = 28
4. Bassa Mawem 1 – 8 – 8 = 64
