Sean McColl Heads to Adidas Rockstars 2018
Get ready for more comp climbing action: The Adidas Rockstars bouldering competition is happening this Friday Sept 21 and Saturday Sept 22. Off the heals of the World Championships in Innsbruck, many of the world’s strongest climbers are heading to the Porsche Arena in Stuttgart, Germany for this music-meets-bouldering event.
Canada’s Sean McColl is one of the elite athletes invited to compete. McColl has taken the Rockstar title home three times before (2012, 2014, 2015), but Tomoa Narasaki will be gunning for a three-peat, having won in both 2016 and 2017.
We asked McColl how he’s feeling about the event. “I’m really excited about Adidas Rockstars as it’s one of the coolest bouldering comps of the year! I’m definitely psyched, probably stronger in lead right now yet still excited to try hard.”
For both men and women it could be anyone’s day when you consider the depth of the field. Alex Puccio will be back to defend her title from last year. The overall world cup bouldering winners, Miho Nonaka and Jernej Kruder will be there, along with the recently crowned bouldering world champions, Janja Garnbret and Kai Harada. Akiyo Noguchi is notably missing but we should get to see Shauna Coxsey, who didn’t compete in Innsbruck due to injury.
This comp is perhaps most well-known for the rousing super final, which is a race between the top 2 men and women, climbing the same boulder problem side-by-side and the first to slam the buzzer at the top wins.
