Janja Garnbret Wins Gold in Epic Finale

A huge win for the Olympic gold medalist in the last Boulder World Cup of 2023

Janja Garnbret flashed all four problems in the women’s finals at the Innsbruck Boulder World Cup and took gold. On the last climb, Garnbret’s emotional reaction to her win could be felt in the stadium and through the livestream. In second was Natalia Grossman and in third was Miho Nonaka, see the full list of results here.

Garnbret is one of the greatest competition climbers of all time. This event is part of her comeback after breaking her left big toe during a training session in February. She was unable to wear a climbing shoe on her left foot for weeks, hampering her training. At the last World Cup she competed in, she finished second behind Oriane Bertone.

Garnbret’s resume in international competition climbing is unmatched. She won gold at the Tokyo Olympics. She also won gold at 23 Lead World Cups and 14 Boulder World Cups before this season. Overall, she won the Lead World Cup season every year from 2016 to 2022, except in 2019 when she won silver. She won the overall Boulder World Cup season in 2019 and she won Combined four years in a row, from 2016 to 2019.

At the start of today’s competition, Canadian Alannah Yip announced that she’ll be retiring from World Cups after this season – read more here. Rewatch finals below and visit here for the men’s boulder semis and finals and the Lead World Cup.
