This is the Bouldering Wall for the Paris Olympics

The Titan debuted at the recent World Championships in Bern

The Titan bouldering wall, designed by EP Climbing, made its competitive debut at the 2023 IFSC Climbing World Championships in Bern this past weekend. The Titan will be the bouldering wall for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in the Combined Boulder and Lead event.

The Titan boulder has also been installed at gyms across Europe and Asia, allowing members of the public to climb on the very same wall as future Olympians. The first Titan boulder to be installed in North America will be at Portland Rock Gym in Oregon. Learn more about the Titan here.

We asked the design team from EP about the differences between Titan and the wall used at the Tokyo Olympics. They said, “Firstly, the design needs to be much bigger as there are four problems to be set on the wall as opposed to the three problems which were a part of the previous format in Tokyo. From that we wanted to ensure that the climbers have a full test of their skills so in the design, we worked to ensure that from left to right, the wall had a great variety of angles and furthermore, the routesetters could play and experiment with the change in angles across the wall.

We also asked the team about the roof on the right side of the wall, they said, “As we mentioned before, we wanted to provide a wall that would challenge the climbers across the full range of angles so we started from 0° on the left hand side and the wall just builds into the imposing big roof on the right-hand side of the wall. We think the roof is full of character and is very imposing and we think it will make for a great spectacle in the competition.” See the Titan in action at the Bern World Championships below.
