Sean Bailey Flashes Classic V13 in Joe’s Valley

Short in height, Slasher V13 is an impeccable piece of stone that features a few very difficult moves

American climber Sean Bailey recently flashed the five-star problem Slasher V13 in Joe’s Valley, Utah. Established by Paul Nadler in 2010, the short but fierce problem has seen ascents from many of the best climbers in the United States including Paul Robinson, Jimmy Webb, Matt Fultz, and Zach Galla.

Slasher only contains a few moves, but all of them are very hard. From the starting hold, the problem moves up and right to the aptly-named slasher hold – a series of vertical slashes mind-blowingly created by nature. It then moves out left to a decent side pull. A big dyno to the slopey lip comes next, followed by a mantle to top-out.

Bailey is one of the United State’s most well-rounded climbers, having performed at the highest levels of bouldering, sport, and comp climbing. He’s climbed The Grand Illusion V16 in Little Cottonwood Canyon, Box Therapy V15/16 in Rocky Mountain National Park, and Bibliographie 5.15c Céüse, France. In the World Cup circuit in 2021, he won gold in Lead in Chamonix and Villars and gold in Boulder in Salt Lake City.
