5.13b Trad Flash en Route to Yosemite

Alex Waterhouse just made quick work of a steep Indian Creek classic

Alex Waterhouse has flashed a classic hard crack in Indian Creek called Belly Full of Bad Berries, 5.13b. Waterhouse, who started comp climbing in 2013, has amassed an impressive resume of hard routes.

Belly Full of Bad Berries was first climbed in 1997 by Brad Jackson. The second ascent didn’t come until 2008 by Alex Honnold. The first flash was by Pete Whittaker in 2011, with the second flash being in 2022 by Mari Salvesen.

Waterhouse isn’t new to hard crack climbing, in 2020 he made the second ascent of The Kraken V13 in the U.K., first climbed by Tom Randall. He’s redpointed sport climbs up to 5.14d, and recently started a gym hold making company called Contact Holds.

Waterhouse will soon be heading to Yosemite to attempt The Nose with Billy Ridal. Follow along on Waterhouse’s Instagram below for updates from the Valley.
