Climber Sends V15 Between V17 Sessions

Alex Khazanov has climbed From Dirt Grows the Flowers while visiting Switzerland for Alphane

Alex Khazanov has repeated From Dirt Grows the Flowers, a famous V15 in Chironico, Switzerland. It was first climbed in 2005 by Dave Graham and it’s been repeated by climbers like Adam Ondra and Carlo Traversi.

Khazanov has spent his past few trips to Chironico projecting Alphane, a V17 first climbed by Shawn Raboutou in spring 2022. It was then repeated by Aidan Roberts, Will Bosi, Simon Lorenzi and Jacob Schubert. Veteran boulderer Daniel Woods, who made the first ascent of Return of the Sleepwalker V17, also spent several days working on Alphane over the past few years.

Khazanov said that he decided to take a break from Alphane on his most recent trip to work on From Dirt Grows the Flowers, saying on 8a.nu that he’s “very happy about doing it rather quickly.”

In 2018, he won a bouldering world cup, but he said that this will be his final year on the circuit as he will now focus on coaching. About Alphane, Khazanov said, “This boulder is very hard. I have spent about 20 sessions on it already and saw some of the best climbers in the world try it. Definitely feels like a 9A [V17].”
