Getting Gripped On Granite In The Pyrenees, Spain

The Pyrenees Mountains between Spain and France have dozens of excellent bouldering and sport climbing areas.

Most of the crags are single-pitch, but the Terradets is 500 metres and Cavallers is 120 metres. The Cavallers area has over 300 routes that range from well-bolted to run out trad.

There are grainy slabs that are have countless micro-holds that require balance and concentration. There are also winding cracks that demand good gear placing skills and confident jamming. Some of the more difficult routes have big overlaps that require efficient rock-overs and dark grooves and chimneys.

The African Wall, Pastry Shop and Helmet have some of the best sport routes in the Pyrenees. The popular long routes are on the Needles of Comelestorres.
