Smith Rock’s New Hardest Route by Drew Ruana

Drew Ruana has climbed Assassin 5.14d in Smith Rock, which might be the area’s hardest route.

Smith is Ruana’s home crag and his 5.14d grade, once confirmed, will be the hardest graded bolted route at America’s historic sport climbing venue.

On Instagram, he posted, “Perfect first day back! I’m beyond psyched to say that I got the FA of ‘The Assassin’, proposed grade 5.14d/9a.”

Ruana broke the climb into three sections. The first is Repeat Offender with big moves on bad holds and feels like V11. The second is Villain, which is four moves at around V10/11. The third is White Wedding, which climbs up to V9 after a rest.

“Super stoked to have sent this route after getting my butt kicked on it for around a year. If anyone wants to try it and confirm the grade or propose something different I’d be beyond psyched!”
