Since the beginning of high-altitude mountaineering, climbers have wondered if the Tibetan people had some genetic advantage that allowed them to function so easily at oxygen-starved elevations. New research coming out of the University of Utah now seems to support these suspicions. The study shows that through thousands of years of natural selection the Tibetans have evolved 10 unique oxygen-processing genes that help them live at higher elevations. More details here.
