Watch Pamela Shanti Pack Climb The Kill Artist
Watch offwidth climber Pamela Shanti Pack’s face off with the “mental block,” the second pitch and crux sequence of her latest offwidth first ascent The Kill Artist 5.13+ in Moab, Utah’s Long Canyon.
After her first ascent of the exposed and challenging route, Pack said, “Although the technical crux of this pitch was an airy — foot-over-the-head offwidth invert to layback off a knee lock — out the roof of the chimney.
The mental crux was climbing beneath this massive completely detached block (the “mental block”).
“The “Kill Artist” in it’s entirety, is one of the most desperate offwidth masterpieces in the desert. The first pitch — steeply, overhanging calf-locks (5.12) is the “warm-up” and the route gets more desperate as it goes on with 20′ of the hardest and most powerful moves I’ve ever encountered on an offwidth.
