Jean-Pierre Ouellet Sends Ringlock Ranch 5.13

Quebec-based crack crusher Jean-Pierre Ouellet has made the second ascent of Ringlock Ranch 5.13 in Indian Creek.

The first ascent was earlier this year by Mason Earle, a driving force in the desert who’s spent many years searching the canyons of Utah for new routes.

Over the past decade, Earle has established some of the area’s most wicked climbs.

“Moab is probably the place I could live for the rest of my life,” said Ouellet. “The climbing potential there is so vast. There’s so much rock out there, it’s crazy.”

Ouellet has a number of hard trad sends to his name, including the first redpoint of La Zebree 5.14 at Val-David, and the first ascents of Necronomicon 5.13+/14-, Mexican Snow Fairy 5.13+ and Hypothenuse 5.13c.

Ouellet once said his climbing heroes are “Hidetaka Suzuki, Tony Yaniro, Steve Hong, Steve Petro, Todd Skinner. But my Number One Hero is definitely Bruce Lee. He would have been a heck of a crack climber.”
