Margo Hayes Sends Another 5.15 with Papichulo

Margo Hayes has sent Papichulo 5.15a in Oliana, Spain, a classic hard limestone route first climbed by Chris Sharma in 2008. Hayes is fresh off making third place in the USA open bouldering championships.

Jon Siegrist said Papichulo as one of the most pumpy routes he’d ever been on and Daniel Woods said it was “the most resistant route I have climbed on, 50 metres, limited rests, perfect rock, sketchy slab outro. It has everything.”

On Feb. 26, 2017, Hayes became the first woman to climb a 5.15a with a send of La Rambla in Siurana, Spain. Soon after, Angela Eiter climbed La Planta de Shiva 515b at Villanueva del Rosario, Spain.

Hayes was a gymnast before she started climbing and began to rope up with her dad, Tom, who would take her and her older sister, Nola, climbing in Boulder Canyon. In July 2017, Hayes competed in her first IFSC lead World Cup in Briançon, France, where she came in sixth. Then Hayes came in third at the IFSC Youth World Championships Combined in Innsbruck, Austria.
