A new report from the Argentinean alpinist Rolando Garibotti suggests that American Hayden Kennedy and Canadian Jason Kruk's chopped most of Cesare Maestri's Compressor Route after their "fair means" ascent of SE Ridge of Cerro Torre.
A new report from the Argentinean alpinist Rolando Garibotti suggests that American Hayden Kennedy and Canadian Jason Kruk’s chopped most of Cesare Maestri’s Compressor Route after their “fair means” ascent of SE Ridge of Cerro Torre. If the report is correct, Kennedy and Kruk’s actions have erased one of the world’s most famous and controversial climbs.
According to Garibotti, “During the descent they chopped a good portion of the Compressor route, including the entire headwall and one of the pitches below. The Compressor route is no more”.
Reports suggest that Kennedy and Kruk’s route goes at 5.11 A2 and that the team avoided using all but five existing bolts during their climb.
