Evolution in Climbing Ropes with Sterling Evolution VR9

The Sterling Evolution series offers a broad range of ropes, and the Evolution VR9 fits into the category of a great all-rounder for rock climbers.

It has a Dry Core treatment to prevent water absorption in the core of the rope but no dry treatment to the rest of rope so it is mostly a fair-weather climbing cord. The treatment also decreases the thread-on-thread wear and prolongs the rope’s life.

At 9.8 mm the rope will resist a fair amount of abrasion while working projects of trad climbing and working projects. Sterling’s tight sheath adds to the durability.

Despite the tough sheath, the cord has a fairly soft hand that makes it a pleasure to tie into and helps it to feed easily into belay devices. The package is rounded out with a prominent 8’ long black middle-marker which does not change the texture of the rope.

The majority of summer rock climbers will find the Sterling Evolution VR9 9.8mm more than enough rope for their needs. It is also competitively priced. If you’re looking for lighter line for long redpoints, check out eh Aero 9.2 and Helix 9.5, also from the Evolution line.
