Climbers can now strike Cuba off their list of winter rock climbing destinations. As of January 2012, Cuba has banned all access to the mountains in Western Cuba. Anyone wishing to visit the area, which includes Viñales National Park, home of about 80 percent of Cuba’s established climbs, is now restricted to authorized walking tours with official guides on a handful of trails.  The rest of the area is off-limits to all visitors.
