Eva Hammelmuller Sends New 5.14 in Germany

The route comes after an impressive few weeks of 5.14 routes

Eva Hammelmuller just finished a trip to Weyer Neu, Germany, and racked up an impressive list of sends and a first ascent. The 20-year-old crusher called her new route Covid-20 and graded it in the mid 5.14 range.

“I’ve been trying this route since I was 14 years old, and having it done now is unbelievable,” she said. “The route is steep, powerful, and feels amazing to climb.”

Hammelmuller, who started climbing 13 years ago, is a two-time European youth champion in 2017 in Lead and Combined. She’s also a nine-time Austrian youth champ. Over the past few weeks, she clibmed three 5.14a’s and three 5.14b’s, not including her first ascent.

Whaaat?! Can’t believe I just made my very first FA ever!! I’ve been trying this route since I was 14 years old, and having it done now is unbelievable. The route is steep, powerful, and feels amazing to climb. I’ve always dreamt about making a FA; however, I never expected the grading to be so challenging. For me, it was definitely the hardest route I’ve ever done, but grading is so subjective that I find it nearly impossible to indicate a single grade. I guess something around 8c, for some it might be a bit easier, for some it might feel quite hard… whatsoever, who cares about the grade when it’s a cool line and great to climb? • • ? @klettermax_87 . • • @vibram #teamvibram #mammut #sportlandnoe #iloveclimbing
