Aug 31, 2009 – New Route on Nanga Parbat

Climbing with a strong team of four Austrian climbers, Montreal alpinist Louis Rousseau successfully forged a new route on Nanga Parbat 8125m. The new Austro-Canadian North-West route is over 2000m long and follows unclimbed terrain on the northwest part of the mountain. Unfortunately, the successful ascent was marred by the death of team member Wolfgang Kölblinger while was climbing Nanga Parbat’s Kinshofer route. Nanga Parbat is the world’s ninth highest mountain and was first climbed 1953 by Austrian climber Hermann Buhl. More details here and here.
