Another PB for Alannah Yip in Wujiang Speed WC

A great day for Alannah Yip on the World Cup circuit today in Wujiang. Yip shaved some time off her Moscow personal best (9.509 seconds) for a new PB of 9.449 seconds, which landed her in 29th place.

Sean McColl had a fast round, too, clocking in at 7.162 seconds, which is close to but not quite as fast as his Chongqing PB (7.111 secs). McColl ended up in 41st.

Quite a few upsets in the top ranks of the women’s speed event. Perhaps the biggest one was a slip by YiLing Song, the current world record holder and winner of the last two WC competitions. Song was eliminated in the 1/8 final, along with Russia’s Luliia Kaplina, bronze medalist in Moscow and Chongqing. And yet another shock was in the quarter final, when Aleksandra Kalucka from Poland got to the top first but failed to hit the buzzer.

That “fall” kept her from advancing beyond 8th place. In the end, Kalucka’s Polish compatriot Aleksandra Rudzinska earned herself the gold medal with consistently fast times across the board. She was followed by Aries Susanti Rahayu (INA) in second and Anouck Jaubert (FRA) in third. Anna Tsyganova (RUS) came fourth due to losses by a fraction of a second in both the half and small finals.

For the men, Russia’s Dmitrii Timofeev was on fire for all his races, out-climbing Bassa Mawem’s times by a hair throughout the competition, including in their showdown in the big final. The speedy Frenchman came second and Italy’s Ludovico Fossali came third. Watch the Boulder World Cup here.
